Glendon “Red” Allicks, 86, of Princeton passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at home in Princeton.
Red was born on December 19, 1937 in Amboy, IL the son of Artemis Glenn and Claire Lenore (Merrow) Allicks. He graduated from Princeton Township High School in 1956. He married Carol Warren on December 10, 1961 in Bureau Township Community Church by Reverend Randall Rice. Red worked for Jack Walstrom Concrete, and he poured concrete all over Princeton and Bureau County. He was a master at his craft. Red then worked for Princeton Township and was elected as a Highway Commissioner from 1993 till his retirement in 2000. Red served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1957-1961. He was a flight engineer on C-54 aircraft. Red was proud of his time in the Air Force, and he told many stories about his experiences. Red was a member of the American Legion Post 125 and Amvets Post 180 both of Princeton. He also enjoyed being outdoors, especially fishing. He could be found with fishing poles in his truck on his way to the Hennepin Canal or the Big Bureau Creek. Red spent every morning with his table of friends and family at the Coffee Cup in Princeton. He loved to garden and would often bring flowers to the waitresses to make their day.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Carol Allicks of Princeton; two daughters, Lisa (Terry) Clark of Princeton and Kelli (Dean) Kirk of Springfield, MO; 5 granddaughters, Jenny (Jonathan) Hartsock, Jackie (Scott) Bednara, Lindsay (Matthew) Smith, Dana (Kyle) Metropoulos, Kristall (Jonah) Fears; 12 great grandchildren and one brother, Charles Allicks of Princeton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 6 siblings, James Allicks, Fredrick Allicks, Charlotte Lewis, Lenora Ann Hopper, Shirley Camp and an infant sister.
A Memorial Gathering of Friends and Family will be held from 11:00am-1:00pm on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Grant- Johnson Funeral Home 30 West Mechanic Street, Princeton, IL 61356. Military Honors will immediately follow the gathering. Cremation Rites have been accorded.
Memorials may be directed to the American Legion Post 125 and Friends of the Hennepin Canal.
Red was one of a kind, a truly good guy to the core. He will be great missed by his family and friends.
Red was a gentle soul and loved to visit. He left an impression on so many, he will be missed.
Red was the only uncle i knew on the allicks side of my family. He was a truelly kind and loving soul. I would go see him and he would always be so happy to see me. He will always be missed.
Our good buddy, Red, was a treasure. Richard and I looked forward to seeing him every year. Red always made his famous horseradish sauce for us. It takes many hours and dedication to do this. Well, Red you have many friends in line to see you. Much love, Cheryl Freeburg
