Gertrude "Trudy" Hedrick

Gertrude "Trudy" Hedrick, 97, of Sterling died at 5:35 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, at Good Samaritan Society in Prophetstown. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Sterling with Pastor Rodney Phelps officiating. Burial will be in Coloma Township Cemetery, Rock Falls. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services in the church. Born Jan. 23, 1919, in Harmon to Henry (Mable Hettinger) Geldean, she married Roger Hedrick June 24, 1939, in Clinton, Iowa. He died July 30, 1992. Surviving are two sons, Ronald J. (Patti) Hedrick of Wyanet and John R. (Vicki) Hedrick of Sterling; one daughter, Bonnie (Larry) Phelps of Prophetstown; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and two sisters, Helen Nelson of Walnut and Avis Sutton of Lyndon. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Jeanine Hedrick; and three brothers, Don, Howard and Earl Geldean. She graduated from Hoopole High School and Sterling School of Beauty, Sterling. She had been employed by General Electric in Morrison, was a hairdresser for 50 years, retiring in 2006, and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Sterling for 62 years. She volunteered at PADS Shelter in Sterling. Her hobbies were quilting, sewing and knitting.
God has her in His arms; we have her in our heart and memory.

Dear Ronnie, Bonnie, and Randy. Just found out about your mother’s passing. Linda and I we were in Colorado visiting our youngest son from December 18 through Dec 26. So sorry to hear of your loss. I imagine you all three have some great memories of your mother. Please keep in touch.
