Gerald Hinds

gerald hinds

On Saturday, April 16, 2022, Gerald "Todd" Hinds died at home at the age of 76.

Todd was blessed to have survived a seven-way heart bypass in 2010 and after being diagnosed in 2019 with advanced Prostate Cancer, succumbed after three years. He is survived by his wife, Laurie McNamara Hahn Hinds, his step-son, Paul J. McNamara of Peoria, Illinois,  his sister Jayree Hinds Caskey, two nieces Marcee and Kristie and their families, all of Florida.

He was born on February 17, 1946 in Peoria, Illinois to Gerald and Della Mae Holliday Hinds. Through his mother's paternal family, Todd is a documented 5th great-grandson, frontiersman, Daniel Boone.

He graduated from Manuel High School in 1964. In 1967 his family moved to Milo Township to farm with his Aunt Annie (Margaret Ann Harmon) and Uncle George Orin Hinds (both deceased). He was drafted into the US Army during Vietnam and served two years as a mechanic; discharged with the rank of Sergeant.

Todd continued to farm and care for his mother throughout good times and the not so good times. Working from before dawn until the day's work was done, regardless of the hour, or the weather. he could fix anything that broke with about anything he could find. Always stopped to help dig a neighbor out of a snowdrift, or change a tire, or fix a fence- which is how he found his wife in 2007- under a hedge tree entangled in a mess of old woven wire and four point barb. They continued to mend fences together as well as raise cows, sheep, chickens, and cats. On October 11, 2016 he actually took an afternoon off and decided to get married, guess he decided Laurie could keep up with him.

He loved going to farm auctions and always had a load to haul home. Friday nights were spent at the local sale barn. He enjoyed seeing all his friends and hearing the local news.

In accordance with Todd's wishes, cremation was accorded and no memorial service or funeral will be held, as it's Spring and you are all too busy doing what's got to be done. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, Eat More Beef!
