Genevieve L. Smith, 100, of Bradford, Illinois passed away at 9:57 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, Illinois. 

A private immediately family graveside service will be held at Bradford Cemetery, Bradford, Illinois with Pastor Jan Ringenberg officiating.

Burial will take place in Bradford Cemetery, Bradford, Illinois.

 She was born October 2, 1919 at home in Bradford the daughter of Richard T. and Ethel J. (Seeds) Hall.  Gen married Merlin Smith on April 16, 1942 at the Leet Memorial United Methodist Church, Bradford.  He preceded her in death in 1991.

She is survived by two sons: Rick (Marsha) Smith of Bradford and Greg (Nora) Smith of Bradford; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband,  one daughter: Patsy Smith; four brothers, and two sisters.

Gen graduated from Bradford High School  and she completed nurses training at Methodist College of Nursing in Peoria, Illinois.

She worked as a Registered Nurse at the Methodist Hospital for many years and then as a private nurse for Dr. Sandor Apathy in Bradford.

Gen was an active lifelong member of Leet Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Bradford Women's Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting and was a great baker.

  4. I remember Gen as a kind neighbor and good friend to my own mother, Byrdena Schuneman. Mom treasured her friendship, especially after she was also widowed. Rick and Greg, I hope your memories of your mom will comfort you always. You’re in our prayers.

  7. Rick and Greg…I just learned that your Mom died. I do not even have words for what she meant to me. My daughters always asked to go see Gen when we were at Mom’s. She was a wonderful lady. Thinking of you all.
