Gene Adkins

Royal Eugene "Gene" Adkins, 91, lifetime farmer and John Deere aficionado of Bradford, passed away peacefully at 4:18 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at his home, on the same plot of land on which he was born. Born Aug. 30, 1924, to Frank and Effie (Denton) Adkins, he married Darlene Hilda Anna Linden on Dec. 9, 1944. She preceded him in death on Nov. 12, 2011. He was a member of the Leet Memorial United Methodist Church of Bradford. An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a sergeant and military policeman (MP) in Manila, Philippines. Surviving are one son, Dennis (Kirby) Adkins of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; two daughters, Gloria (Gary) Beaverson of Roxborough, Colo., and Julee (Martin) Sieks of Kansas City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Harmoni Esterberg of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Karli Adkins of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Jason (Dong-Hee) Savage of Overland Park, Kan., and Ryan Sieks of Kansas City, Mo.; and three great-grandchildren, Aiden and Alec Savage of Overland Park, Kan., and Eloise Esterberg of Thousand Oaks, Calif. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Harold and Frank Adkins; and and one sister, Dorothy Lord. Cremation rites will be accorded and private services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Bradford Rescue Squad or Leet Memorial United Methodist Church.
