Frederick E. Schupbach Jr.

Frederick E. Schupbach, Jr., 82, of Bradford, Illinois passed away peacefully Thursday, August 4, 2022 at Methodist Hospital, Peoria, Illinois surrounded by his family.
Fred was born May 10, 1940 in Princeville, Illinois the first born child of Frederick E. and Mary (Stapp) Schupbach.
He married Valerie Shull on November 5, 1966 at St. Jude's Episcopal Church in Tiskilwa, Illinois. She survives in Bradford. They shared 55 years together.
He is also survived by two children: Matthew (Kelly) Schupbach of Algonquin, Illinois and Stephanie (Eric) Christensen of Geneva, Illinois; six grandchildren: Perrin, Taylor, Nathan, and Alyssa Schupbach, and Carter and Kendall Christensen; five Siblings: Lucille (Larry) Thomsen of Moline, IL, Steven (Pamela) Schupbach of Belvidere, IL, Paul (Deb) Schupbach of Wyoming, IL, Philip Schupbach of Branson, MO, and Joanne (Jeff Heller) Schupbach of Downers Grove, IL; and many other loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Fred attended Bradford Grade School in the building where the funeral home is now located. He graduated from Wyoming High School with the Class of 1958.
He served in the United States Army National Guard.
Fred was a well known business owner of Schupbach & Streitmatter LP Gas Company in Wyoming for 64 years.
Fred was a an active member of the St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Wyoming, Illinois. He formerly served on the Bradford Village Board, working on the Bradford Church and Community Project that gave jobs to the area youth.
He was a member of the Bradford American Legion Post #445, where he served as treasurer for many years and helped prepare the food at every fish fry for over 50 years. Taking care of veterans was important to Fred. He would make sure that all the veterans' graves at Osceola Grove Cemetery had a flag holder and flag. He also would purchase and donate clothes, candy, and girl scout cookies to veterans.
Fred had many collections. One of Minneapolis Moline Tractors that he valued from his childhood, a root beer themed collection, and nostalgic gas station, oil, and car memorabilia collection.
He built a chapel in his home with stained glass windows, pews, and altar railings that he restored from St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Wyoming where he attended as a child.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching their various activities.
Due to Covid-19 concerns a drive through visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Bradford, Illinois. Please enter the through the east drive.
A private funeral service will be held for the family.
Burial will take place in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Wyoming, Illinois at a later date.

We are so sorry. Fred was special to us. We have many memories. His smile was contagious. He will be missed by many people.
I haven’t seen Fred for some time, I remember him as a kind and gentile man . My sincere condolences to his family and all who loved him.

I was so sad to hear about the death of your father. I will pray for him and your family.
My sympathy to Valerie and family. Fred and I maintained contact after high school when we attended the Bradford Labor Day festivities and Fred was cooking the meat, also when we were invited to his home and see his collections and lately via email on special occasions. My thoughts and prayers for the family.
