Estelle M. Alpaugh

Estelle M. Alpaugh, 96, of Geneseo, formerly of Princeton and Manlius, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Hammond-Henry Long Term Care in Geneseo. She was born March 8, 1919, to George and Hanna (Nielson) Meyer in Louisville, Ky. She married Oliver H. Alpaugh on Aug. 5, 1950. He preceded her in death on Jan. 6, 1995. She graduated from Shawnee High School in Louisville in January 1937. She then worked in the administration building of the Louisville Public School until her marriage. After they moved to Illinois in March of 1954, she worked at the Bureau County Courthouse in the Circuit Clerk''s office for 20 years until she retired. She later worked a Greenfield Retirement Home. She was a member of St. Matthew''s Lutheran Church, Princeton, and formerly the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manlius. She was also a member of the Bureau County Senior Center. After her retirement she kept herself busy by volunteering at the Bureau County Senior Center, Bureau County Food Pantry and was a Gold Coat at Perry Memorial Hospital. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Jo (Edward) Sims of Palatine and Marsha (C. Edward) Holstrom of Bettendorf, Iowa; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; nephews; and great-nephews and great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 26, at St. Matthew''s Lutheran Church, Princeton, with Pastor Scott Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the Manlius Cemetery, Manlius. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Bureau County Senior Center or Sheffield Historical Society.
