Ellen S. Lawton, 98, of Princeton died at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Liberty Village of Princeton. Ellen S. Lawton, 98, of Princeton died May 5, 2011, in Liberty Village of Princeton. Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. May 21 in First Presbyterian Church, Princeton, with the Rev. Spencer Lawrence officiating. Inurnment will be at Oakland Cemetery, Princeton. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, Princeton or Princeton Public Library. Born April 29, 1913, in Tiskilwa to Bradford N. II and Ruth (Jackman) Stevens, she married Watson F. Lawton Dec. 29, 1937, in Tiskilwa. He died Oct. 21, 2004. Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn (Verne Shaffer) Workman of Princeton and Jean Lawton of Santa Fe, N.M.; one son, John Stevens (Jeanie Taylor) Lawton of Santa Cruz, Calif.; four grandchildren, Gretchen (Kevin) Bauer, Erika (Jeff) Robbins and Kurt (Amanda) Workman, all of Princeton, and Cris Brown of Dallas, Texas; and nine great-grandchildren, Julia, Katie, Jack, Madalyn, Anna, Jeremy, Conner, Grace and Elin. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Bradford N. Stevens III. She attended Wellesley College in Wellesley, Mass., and Northwestern University in Evanston. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Princeton, P.E.O. Sisterhood and Friends in Council, and was a former board member for Matson Public Library and Greenfield. Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church in Princeton and Princeton Public Library.
