Edward George Sass

Edward George Sass, 86, of Manlius passed away at noon Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at home in Manlius. Born Aug. 22, 1927, in Downers Grove to George and Erna (Diesing) Sass, he married Janet Elaine Johnson July 23, 1955, in Westmont. She survives. He was a shipping clerk for World of Beauty, Country Side, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manlius. Also surviving are two daughters, Wendy (Ingvaar) Fors of Aurora and Gail (Robert Hernandez) Coyle of Plainfield; three grandchildren, Melissa (Erik) Swierenga of Marengo, Joshua Coyle of Manlius and Krystina (Colson) Freehill of Princeton; one great-granddaughter, Emalie Freehill of Princeton; one sister, Jean (John) Sauer of Berwyn; and one brother-in-law, Richard (Marie) Johnson of Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dorothy Kurz; and one brother, Herbert Sass. A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manlius with the Rev. Brenda Lovick officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, at the church. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manlius.
