Edward “Ed” Harmon passed away on December 18, 2022 at his home. Ed was born in Spring Valley, Il. on November 17, 1938 to Loren and Dorothy (Dennison) Harmon. Ed lived and went to school in DePue. He married June Chelin in Princeton on March 15, 1958.

Ed was the manager of a local lumber yard and then opened Harmon Lumber and Building Supply in Malden. For many years, Ed owned a gumball vending machine business in Princeton and surrounding counties donating money to various service organizations. He was a member of the Princeton Moose Lodge and a prior member of the Lions Club and the Princeton Elks Lodge.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Terry, and his brother Bob.

He is survived by his wife, his son, Kent (Cindy) of Princeton, brother Jim (Hope) of DePue, sister Evelyn Fox of Princeton, brother Ron of Orlando, FL, sister Linda (David) Laszewski of LaSalle, one grandson, Cody (Amber) Lohman and two great-grandchildren.

Ed enjoyed NASCAR and country music, taking many trips to Branson, MO.

Cremation was accorded. Pursuant to his request, there will be no visitation or funeral. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Memorials can be made to Open Prairie Church or the Princeton Moose Lodge.

  1. Ed was very special to my sister and me. We used to live across the street from them and they had us over almost daily. Those visits meant so much to a young girl already dealing with some personal issues. My sister was his “buddy” and they would have lunch together all the time. He will be greatly missed!

    I am so sorry for your loss. I just saw this. I have appreciated the support given to the Bureau County Food Pantry from the gum ball machine business. What a giving man with a giving heart!! Thinking of both of you during this time.

  3. I am very sorry to hear of Ed’s passing. He and June were great friends to my grandparents, Leland and Dorothy Herrick. Grandpa and Ed were always together filling gumball machines.
