Services for Dorothy G. (Roush) Swanson, 93, of Walnut are scheduled for Friday, May 23, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton with Rev. Willy Minnix officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Memorial Park, Princeton. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Mrs. Swanson passed away on May 15, 2014 in Walnut, Illinois. Dorothy Swanson was born October 29, 1920 in Annawan, Illinois. She was the daughter of Alvy Roush Sr. and Frances (Lambert) Roush. She was a graduate of Manlius High School and attended Sauk Valley College. In 1940 she married Clare D. Swanson in Tipton, Iowa. She was the Activity Director at Gateway Center in Malden, Illinois for many years. She loved and enjoyed all the clients she worked with daily and they brought joy to her life. Later, she worked at the Bureau County Day Care Center where she shared her love of painting with the children. In 2003 she retired after 17 years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters Blanche Roush, Lila Oloffson, and brothers Donald Roush, Alvy Roush, Jr. and Gary Roush. She is survived by: a sister Marilyn Moore and husband Wayne of Sheffield, Illinois, her daughters Gloria VanDenBerg of Athens, Texas, and Jo Ellen Mettetal and husband Ted Mettetal of Athens, Texas; grandchildren Brenda Canales, Julie Sibley, Dustin Mettetal, Jennifer Mettetal, and Nicolas Mettetal; great-grandchildren James Wierzbicki, Elizabeth Wierzbicki, Matthew Lloyd, and Ila Mettetal. She always had life goals that she worked toward. He guides us to the finish line, where a “great cloud of witnesses” waits to cheer us home! She is home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the donor''s choice.
