Deanne Marie (Maas) DeBrock, 84, of Sheffield, known for her quiet strength and endless compassion, died Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born May 7, 1938, the first of four children to Ray and Clara (VanBevern) Maas. She grew up on a dairy farm northeast of Mineral and graduated as salutatorian of Mineral High School in 1956.

On April 23, 1960, she married Richard DeBrock. For years they farmed near Sheffield and Manlius and had seven children.

In addition to the family farm, she also worked for a number of employers throughout her life, including years as a pharmacy technician in Princeton and as a Bureau County election judge. Her favorite job, however, was being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She enjoyed canasta, gardening, birdwatching, word puzzles and many cats. She played the piano and accordion, was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sheffield, and was known by Manlius teachers for her cinnamon rolls.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three children, Randall, Raymond, and Denise; and one brother, David.

She is survived by three sons, Ronald (Wendy) of Alton, Robert (Jennifer) of Wyanet, and Roger (Kris) of Manlius; a daughter, Debra, of Sheffield; and a daughter-in-law, Kimberly (Raymond), of Sheffield. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Rebecca (Nathaniel), Blake (Brianne), Kara, Riley, Katelyn, Tyler (Cassie) and Allison, as well as six great-grandchildren: Caedmon, Aiden, Cierra, Layla, Noelle and Myla. Survivors also include two brothers, Donald of Sheffield and Jerry of Canon City, Colorado, and her sister-in-law, Rosemary (Marvin) DeBrock of Princeton.

Funeral Mass will be Monday, April 3, 2023 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sheffield at 10 a.m. with Fr. Mark Miller officiating. Burial will be in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Sheffield. Visitation will be 4-6 Sunday, April 2, 2023 at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton.
