David “Dave” Glen Conner, 65, of Ohio, Ill., passed away at 1:02 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Dave had just had successful open heart surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm when he was taken by pulmonary embolism while still at the hospital. He was born Jan. 10, 1952, at the Dixon Public Hospital, the son of Edward “Ted” and Sue (Parker) Conner. He lived in Walnut until he married Kathleen “Kat” Ohda on Aug. 12, 1978, at the Walnut Methodist Church. She survives in Ohio, Ill. Dave graduated from Walnut Community Consolidated High School in 1970. He worked as a milkman''s assistant for Leafy Lane Dairy when in grade school. After high school he worked for Frank''s Sales and Service of Normandy, Swanson''s Trucking, Pruitt Trucking, Ohio Home Oil, Dant''s Harley Davidson, R.C. Ohda Farm Equipment and retired from Schoff''s Farm Service in 2017. He was a member of the Ohio Fire Department for 34 years, ABATE of Illinois, Inc. since 1986, and sustaining member of Motorcycle Rights Foundation. Dave loved motorcycles, old cars, Minneapolis Moline tractors and semis, and was a Green Bay Packers fan. Dave never met anyone that he couldn''t make laugh. He was a master of one-liners guaranteed to make you walk around with a smile the rest of the day. Dave had many nicknames during the years but the one that stuck the best was "Fire Marshal Dave" from the In Living Color show. Also surviving are four siblings, Dan (Moe) Conner of Walnut, Darcy (Jim Jones) Conner of Tucson, Ariz., Dawn Conner of Dixon and Darren (Sharon) Conner of Tucson, Ariz.; seven nieces and nephews, Sara, Jason and Jessica Conner, Royal Dawson, Lisa (Nate) Gage, Jason Ohda and Alex Devine; and six great-nieces and great-nephews, Clare and Alice Conner, and Jenalee, Addison, Jackson and Avrielle Ohda. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Princeton. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Green River Country Club, Walnut.. Please wear casual dress to both events. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Ohio, Ill., at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Ohio Fire Department or ABATE of Illinois, Inc., 311 E. Main #418, Galesburg, IL 61401.

  7. Kathy, Dan, Darcy, Dawn, & Darren, and families – the news of Dave’s passing is a shock and very sad. He’s way too young, and we hear that he just recently retired. Our hearts go out to all of you. Dave and I have such fond memories of his sense of humor… and Dave joyfully remembers all the mischief they got into back in high school and as young adults! May he rest in peace, and your family smile at the memories he helped create!

  8. Where do I begin? If it were not for you 2 there would be no us! You got us to go on that blind date and now look, you know we love you both and I know how strong you are! We always can think of so many fun times we had! Dave always said the thing you remembered and chuckled about later! Love you Kathy and you are in my prayers!   12. Very, very sorry to hear of dave’s passing I planned to come down sunday but was a
    little under the weather. I don’t think I ever saw him without a smile.Hang in there Kat.
