Darrell D. Marquis
June 11, 1928 ~ May 30, 2020
Darrell D. Marquis, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather died on Saturday, May 30, 2020, at the age of 91 years.
Darrell was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Colleen (Martin) Marquis, his parents Tann and Lulu Marquis and six siblings Marie (Marquis) Yoder, Carl Marquis, Dorothy (Marquis) Flint, Wilma (Marquis) Ulrich, Kenneth Marquis and Donald "Bo" Marquis. He is survived by his daughter Brenda (Marquis) Throneburg (married to Dennis Throneburg) and son Darrell "Mark" Marquis, two siblings Loretta (Marquis) McKay and Beverly (Marquis) Danielson. He has four grandsons; Josh and Marcus Throneburg and Dustin and Jason Marquis. He has seven great-grandchildren.
Darrell was born and raised in Buda, Illinois, one of nine children. He graduated from Buda High School where he met his future wife Colleen Martin. They were married on February 20, 1949. He served in the United States Navy until receiving an early honorable discharge when his wife contracted polio. Upon returning home to Buda he farmed and drove a gas truck for FS, but in 1976, he, along with his brother Bo and his son Mark, struck out on their own and started a small grain company called Marquis Grain. While continuing to farm, he maintained his ownership and involvement in the company until his retirement in 1993.
Upon retirement, Darrell and Colleen golfed, traveled, spent their retirement winters in Florida and continued their lifelong commitment to faith. They attended the Bunker Hill Church in Buda. He was a hard-working, energetic man with lots of friends and family who loved him. He will be (and already is) deeply missed.
The family will be celebrating his life at a small private ceremony. Any gifts in Darrell’s memory may be donated to the Bunker Hill Church in Buda or the Wyanet Rescue Unit. Online condolences may be sent to www.grant-johnsonfh.com.
