Daniel Benedict McKean, 92,of Bradford, passed away at 1:40 a.m. Wednsday, April 22, 2015 at home. Born March 20, 1923 to James Daniel & Anna Margaret (Dickman) McKean. He married Barbara Jean McDowell in Galva, IL at St.John the Apostle CAtholic Church on June 25, 1949. She survives in Bradford. Also surviving are three daughters, Elizabeth (John) Jones of Ashland, IL; Mary (Jeff) Ewing of Cottlesville, MO; Martha (Philip) Galow of Oswego, IL. three sons, Daniel J. (Kathy) McKean of Fenton, MO; David B. (Marcella) McKean of Peoria, IL; Peter C. (Mary) McKean of Bradford, IL; twenty-seven grandchildren; forty-four great-grandchildren; SR. Gretchen McKean C.H.M of Des Moines, IA; Sister-in-law, Elizabeth McKean of Minneapolis, MN. Preceded in death by parents, Sister - Mary Margaret Wilson; four Brothers, James, John, Joseph & Rev. Benedict McKean OSB. He Graduated from Bradford High School in 1941. Dan Farmed in the rural Bradford his entire life, His dairy herd ranked highly in local dairy Herd Improvement Assoc. and he consistently won quality awards from Prairie Farms Dairy in Peoria. He was 4-H leader in Milo Twp. for many years, a Bradford Lions Club member, and charter member of Corpus Christi Council of Knights of Columbus. In retirement he and Barbara enjoyed many winters in AZ. The loves of his life were simple things: Notre Dame football, picking blackberries and asparagus, and holding grandchildren on his knee. Nothing meant more to him than his beloved wife and family and his Catholic faith. The entire family is indebted to Dan and Barbara''s caregiver and friend, Anneta Ross Webber, who with her team, faithfully, and lovingly cheered his final years. Member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Bradford. Mass will be Monday, April 27, 2015 in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Bradford at 10:30 a.m. with Father Vien Van Do officating. Burial will be St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Bradford. Visitation 4-7 Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Bradford. with Rosary at 7 p.m. Memorial may be directed to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church building fund or Bradford Rescue Squad.
