Dana J. Mannon, 95, passed away peacefully in his sleep May 23rd.  Dana was born July 12th, 1927 in Kewanee, IL.  He was the only child of Grace and Joseph Mannon and spent his childhood on the family farm. Dana graduated from Bradford High School, Bradford, IL in May 1944. In the Fall of 1945, he attended the University of Illinois majoring in Chemistry.  Dana was drafted in the U.S. Army in January 1946; he served in Germany.  Upon his return home, Dana married Leah E. Hall on September 5, 1948, at Leet Memorial Methodist Church in Bradford, IL.

 

Dana and Leah farmed for 47 years northwest of Bradford, IL.  Dana was featured in the Prairie Farmer Magazine for his innovative hog farrowing pen design.  He was a storyteller and enjoyed visiting with everyone.  He was most proud of his computer programming skills.  He also obtained his private pilot’s license when he as 16 years old.  Dana was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner.  Dana and Leah were active members of the Leet Memorial Methodist Church in Bradford and volunteered at the Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, IL for 22 years and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Europe, and New Zealand.   They had three children, Gary (Judy) Mannon, Jana (Barry) Reed, and Todd Mannon, along with 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.  Preceding him in death were his parents (Joseph and Grace), his wife (Leah) and granddaughter Laura Mannon.

 

Visitation will be at 10:00am, Saturday, May 27, 2023, followed by an 11 AM service at Leet Memorial United Methodist Church, Bradford, IL.  Pastor Dan Wright will be officiating.  Military Rites will be accorded by the Bradford American Legion #445.  Interment will follow funeral at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 2472 US Highway 34, Kewanee, IL.   Memorial contributions may be made to the Leet Memorial United Methodist Church, 118 E. Main St. Bradford, IL 61421 and Valley of Peoria Scottish Rite, PO Box 5204, Peoria, IL 61601.
