Cynthia Mae DeFreezer, 73, of Buda, Illinois went to join her beloved husband on July 5, 2021 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Illinois.

She was born August 27, 1947 in Princeton, Illinois the daughter of George and Winona (Eckhoff) Roberts.   

Cynthia married Peter F. DeFreezer October 24, 1965, at the Congregational Church in Buda. He preceded her in death November 15, 2016.

Survivors include three children, Denise (Joseph) Paul of Flower Mound, TX, Matthew (Julie) DeFreezer of Petersburg, IL, and Steve (Theresa) DeFreezer of Granville, IL; four grandchildren, Seth, Dana, Lydia and Caitlyn DeFreezer;  and five siblings: Sandy DeMay of East Moline, IL, Larry Roberts of Buda, IL, Jerre (Diana) Roberts of Buda, IL, Jolene Rokey of Princeton, IL, and Ernie Roberts of Buda, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers: Bryan and Stanley Roberts.

Cynthia graduated from Western Community High School, Buda, with the Class of 1965.

She was a school bus driver for Western School District, Buda, for many years and she retired from Pioneer.

Cynthia was on the Hopeland Cemetery Board, Buda Mason Memorial Public Library Board, and the Western Bureau County Food Pantry Board. She was a very active member of the First United Church of Christ in Sheffield where she was treasurer for many years.

In her free time, Cynthia enjoyed crafting, gardening and feeding birds and squirrels. She especially loved the hummingbirds in her yard, but her true love was her family.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2021at the First United Church of Christ Church, Sheffield, Illinois with Rev. Martin Nussbaum and Rev. Ross Wyman, co-officiating. Burial will take place in Hopeland Cemetery, Buda, Illinois

A visitation will be held Friday, July 9, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton, Illinois. Memorials may be directed to the Mason Memorial Public Library, Buda or the Hopeland Cemetery, Buda.

    Even though we didn’t know each other well, you always had a smile and a kind word for us. You will be missed by so many. I’m so sorry your family has lost you, that’s so sad. I know you are with Pete now and you can watch over your family together from a higher place. I will miss you.
