Clifton Dean Barnett

Clifton Dean Barnett, 84, of Buda passed away at 7:53 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at his home in Buda. Dean was born Aug. 15, 1933, at home in Bureau Township, the son of Robert and Rowena (Jackson) Barnett. He married Phyliss Henkins on May 28, 1953, at Bunker Hill Church of God in Buda. They shared 63 years together. She preceded him in death on Nov. 12, 2016. He graduated from Buda High School with the Class of 1951. He served in the U.S. Army 1st Division as a combat engineer stationed in Germany. He was a member of Bunker Hill Church of God, serving as a deacon. He currently attended the Sheffield United Methodist Church. He farmed for nine years before beginning a partnership with his dad, Robert, in 1963 starting Buda Feed and Milling, retiring after 35 years. He kept busy during his retirement years making trophies for Breedlove''s Sporting Goods and calibrating planters. He was a 4-H leader, volunteered on the Buda Fire Department, serving as fire chief for a number of years, served on the Buda Town Board, was a member of the Buda Jaycees, a member of Hidden Lake Golf Course for 47 years, a member of the National Fertilizer Solutions Association, serving on the board of directors for three years, and a member of the Bureau Valley School Foundation, Buda Lions Club and Buda American Legion Post 261. He was an avid golfer, reader and a collector of many things. Dean enjoyed cruising in his 64 Ford Galaxy. Surviving are four children, Mike (Christine) Barnett of Parker, Colo., Dan (Gretchen) Barnett of San Diego, Calif., Gary (Lisa) Barnett of Sheffield and Sherri Code of Bradford; 11 grandchildren, Nicole (Matt) Cook, Alisha (Rob) Looney, Danny (Jessica) Barnett, Angela Barnett, Andrea Barnett, Jim Code, Robert (Gabriella) Barnett, Katelyn (Tony Gripp) Code, Jacob Code, Blake Barnett and Jared Code; three great-grandchildren, Maxx, Maci and Kinsli Cook; and two brothers, Arvel (Barb) Barnett and Richard (Cheryl) Barnett. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and three brothers, Vernon, Dewayne and Waylon. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Terry Lancaster officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Memorial Park, Princeton, with military rites conducted by Buda American Legion Post 261 and Princeton American Legion Post 125. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Abilities Plus in Kewanee, the Buda Rescue Unit and the Sheffield United Methodist Church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his caregivers, Donna Dalrymple, Stephanie Boyer and Preferred Hospice. Pallbearers will be Danny Barnett, Jim Code, Robert Barnett, Jacob Code, Blake Barnett and Jared Code. Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Heiden and Gerald Flint.
