Charles Lester Baugh

Charles Lester Baugh, 89, of Bradford passed away at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru. Charles was born on June 27, 1926, in Dawson, Ill., the son of Lester and Clara (Barrow) Baugh. He married Byrdena Schuneman on Feb. 9, 2008, and she survives Charles was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II as a fireman on a tank landing ship (LST). During the course of his long and varied career, he was a police officer, insurance sales manager, radio and TV announcer, and mayor of Normal, Illinois. At the time of his retirement due to poor health, he was employed by Wyffels Hybrids Inc. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, as well as a racing aficionado. Also surviving are two sons, Gary (Rhonda) Baugh of Mason City, and David (Sally) Baugh of Bloomington; five daughters, Sharon (Rob) Houchin of Mackinaw, Vicki (Ken) Griffin of Bloomington, Charlene Johnson of Normal, Alisa Dawn (Ron) Tucker of Marion, and Amanda Rose Baugh of Princeton, along with many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Judy (Bud) Denton of Springfield, and Joanne (Harold) Bratt of Florida. His parents, and one sister, Carol, preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 21, preceded by a visitation hour at 10 a.m., at the Bunker Hill Church of God in Buda, Pastor Stephan Myong officiating. Inurnment will be in the Manlius Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bunker Hill Church, Bradford Rescue Squad, or Relevant Ministries, a mission in which one of Charles'' grandsons participates. The family would like to thank all of the nurses and staff at Proctor Hospital, Heartland Health Care, the VA Home in LaSalle and Illinois Valley Community Hospital for their compassion and kindness to Charles during his year-long illness.
Charlie was a good friend and served the Town of Normal with dedication as mayor. Our condolences to his family.
He was a excellent man and knowledgable veteran to the younger generation. I respected him as a father figure and a veteran of a era before my own. My condolances to the family of a great man and mentor to his grand kids.

Was a wonderful man, always trying to help others.
Talking about his children, and grandchildren all of the time,
He was always a joy too be around.
Had the best since of humor, lived to crack jokes,
an read the bible to his granddaughters ( Ariel & Arica)
He will be greatly missed.

I took care of Mr. Baugh,
In Southern Illinois, he was a shear delight and pleasure.
Not a moment went by he was not talking about, Racing, fishing, hunting, history, the bible, his children, or grandchildren.
Us aids loved to gather in his apartment, to play games, chat, find out the latest gossip, listen to his stories, interact with his dogs, have scooter race’s with him and his granddaughters down the halls late at night.
He was always such a joy and fun to be around.
He will be missed. Such a great man.

So much could be said my friend. Such a wonderful man, one thing about Charlie he loved his children, always talked about them.

Such a wonderful man. We all loved him at River to River. You ever wanted great advice, go to Mr.B’s apartment. All of us loved him and adored him and his family. Seeing his grandchildren, an Daughter every night, just a blessing when most of the Elderly don’t have that. Mr. B was dearly loved by us all and his family.
Not a day went by he wasn’t talking about his children, grandchildren, fishing, hunting, racing, camping, history, the military, something. He was always full of life an information with wisdom.

I didn’t have the privilege to know his older children, but I knew his three girls, and grandchildren he loved them dearly.
Where ever Charlie was he always had a grandchild with him.

my grandpa was a great man. he loved everyone and was always over come with joy over the littlest things. he was my bestfriend and always tried to help someone. he was always hunting or fishing. there was never a day he wasnt doing something. hes greatly missed by not only my family but others too.
GRANDPA, YOU WERE A WONDERFUL MAN AND DID WONDERFUL THINGS. NOT ONLY WERE YOU MY GRANDPA, YOU WERE MY BEST FRIEND!! I MISS YOU AND THINK ABOUT YOU EVERYDAY! I LOVE YOU TO THE MOON IN BACK!
