Burdeen J. Eickmeier, 94, of 654 Park Ave., Princeton, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Liberty Village of Princeton. She was born April 24, 1917, in New Castle, Pa., to Isaac and Laura John. She graduated from New Castle High School in 1934 and from Westminster College, New Wilmington, Pa., in 1938 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She taught one year at the junior high school in New Castle, and then became secretary to the sales manager of Pennsylvania Power Company. She later taught Latin at the Hopewell Junior and Senior High School in Aliquippa, Pa. She married Alfred T. Sadler Nov. 29, 1941, and they lived in Aliquippa, Pa., until 1967, when they to moved to Hennepin, Ill., where her husband was the first works manager of the new J & L Steel plant. He preceded her in death, along with her parents, and her brother, Robert John. She was an active member and elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Henry. She was a member of the Putnam County Library Board of Trustees for 11 years, serving as president for six years. She was co-chair of the fine arts department for the Marshall-Putnam Fair for five years. She was also avid bridge player and participated in many groups. In 1990, she married Roger Eickmeier and moved to Princeton where she joined the Evangelical Covenant Church. She became a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International and a member of Bureau Valley Country Club for many years. She was a life member of the Putnam County Historical Society and Perry Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She and her husband also served as volunteer drivers for the Capital Mobile Meals project. She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Shirley Zabransky of Princeton, Judith (James) Fleming of Aurora, Ohio, and Kathleen (Donn) Free of Wheeling, W.Va.; along with five grandchildren, Stephen (Karen) Fleming, Elizabeth (Michael) Marcinko, Laura (Mark) Henderson, David (Kim) Free and Derek (Jessica) Zabransky; seven great-grandchildren; and four nephews and a niece. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Evangelical Covenant Church, Princeton, with the Rev. Derek Boggs and Dr. John Weborg officiating. Burial will be in Mount Bloom Cemetery, Tiskilwa. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton. Memorials may be directed to Evangelical Covenant Church or Putnam County Library in Hennepin.
