Tears and laughter, past and present come together in grief. Young and single, Ron, Blanche, Flo, Paul, Don Turner, Carolyn Gerber, Wanda McKeever and Mary Bakalar and others were friends in Chicago in the late 50’s. They would visit Lake Geneva and the Billy Sunday chapel. Ron was best man at my parents’ wedding. Paul and Flo McKeever’s family and Ron Wall’s family actually shared a farm house. I was born in 1959 when Paul and Flo lived on the old Maggie Kline place south of Bradford. After we moved out Ron and Blanche lived at that farm with some of their family. (Maggie Kline, who when she passed in her 90’s left her money to First Baptist Church and thus they built “Kline Hall.” At the Wall farm east of Bradford the farm house was not heated upstairs, so we would run up and down the stairs talking through the open floor vents!
For some years Glenn Wall was my Grandpa Harry McKeever’s S.S. teacher, and Grandma Camilla taught Marguerite Wall in S.S. at First Baptist. We all remember Ron leading singing and Blanche at piano. Singing in a quartet in Chicago brought my Mom to Bradford when they sang at First Baptist. Later Flo sang in the quartet with Ron, Doris H. and Ben S. at the church. When the tall, fragile stained-glass windows of the church needed repair Ron and Paul loaded them into their station wagons to deliver for repairs.
Ron helped my Dad with our farm sale about 1970. Carol was my Uncle Jim’s favorite (like of everyone he ever knew). “Daisy” and a favorite of my Uncle George’s too. Ron and Blanche were good friends to Aunt Wanda and Uncle Jim. We loved and prayed for Andrew Wall. Craig was the last occupant of the house while McKeevers still owned the farm west of Bradford.
We have a shared history in the town of Bradford at the Osceola Grove cemetery, Bradford schools and First Baptist Church. All of us feel connected in the rich history we have at Bradford. It is family and our home Church. We all still picture Pastor Gerber in the pulpit and we hear the words of Rev. Delbert Howell saying “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 What a foundation we had in building our faith and what a home we have to look forward to being prepared for us in Heaven. Blessings!
Dave Lana, and Family,
So sorry to hear this sad news about Dave’s mom. Even though I didn’t know her, I had heard many positive comments about both she and her husband over the years. May comfort and peace surround you in the coming days.
