Betty Mount, 93, of Princeton, formerly of Wyanet, met her heavenly father at 1:41 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2019.

Betty was born July 2, 1925, in Aurelia, Iowa, to John and Mary (Ellis) Pruitt. She spent her young years in Iowa and at age 17, came to Illinois with her parents in 1942. She graduated from Wyanet High School in 1943.

Betty was employed at International Harvester Payroll Department, where she took a mini-course in business. She also worked at the Amboy Defense Plant office until the war had ceased. During her daughters’ college years, she was employed at Perry Memorial Hospital and the office of the late Dr. Louis Bonucci.

In 1947, Betty married the love of her life, Nick Mount. They lived in the town of Wyanet for 12 years then moved with their daughters, Cindy and Candy, to a farm south of Wyanet which they owned and operated for many years. Betty and her family made the transition from town to country very well. It was here Betty became interested in promoting agriculture.

She spent seven years on the Illinois Pork Women’s Board — one year historian, two years as secretary, two years as president and two years as Pork Queen Chairman. In 1979, Betty received an award and recognition at the Illinois State Fair for her outstanding efforts in promoting agriculture in Illinois. Following Betty’s recognition, she was elected to serve three years on the National Pork Women’s Board in Des Moines, Iowa, where she was National Pork Queen Committee Chairman. In Addition, Betty also judged many Pork Queen contests throughout Illinois, as well as judging several other states contests.

Betty was a proud member of the First United Methodist Church of Princeton. She had a great faith in God and her church was very important. She was also a member of the Perry Memorial Auxiliary, Women of the Moose and the Wyanet Historical Society.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family and they were always her greatest concern. She especially loved Cindy’s Sunday family dinners. One of her favorite hobbies was baking desserts and having her family and friends try them. She was well known for her famous chocolate chip cookies. You were treated with coffee and cookies anytime you stopped by. Her other hobbies included doing arts and crafts, reading and listening to Scotty McCreery, who she got to meet last summer at the Bureau County Fair.

She represented class, diligence, respect for others and a belief in a greater good. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Candy Mount of Princeton and Cindy (Ron) Fundell of Princeton; her grandchildren, Tara (Dion) Gouws of Shelton, Wash., Ryan Morrissey of Wyanet and Katy (Dave Weidner) Olds of Buda; her great-grandchildren, Nic Moon of Memphis, Tenn., Steve Moon of Kirkland, Wash., and Presleigh Morrissey of Wyanet; a brother, Charles “Chuck” (Marilyn) Pruitt of Chillicothe; and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick Mount; her parents, Mary and John Pruitt; three sisters, Maxine Christiansen, Junne Mongan and Margaret Heuer; a brother, Johnnie Pruitt; one niece: Karen Mongan; five nephews, Donnie Christiansen, Jerry Christiansen, Gary Christiansen, Dennis Mongan and Kevin Pruitt; a great-niece, Tammy Christiansen; and her great-nephew, Jason Brock.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, at the First United Methodist Church in Princeton with the Rev. Brian Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Wyanet.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 17, at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Princeton.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Morrissey, Ron Fundell, Dave Weidner, Mike Underwood, Steve Christiansen and Rick Pruitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Dion Gouws, Larry Mongan, Jay Mount, Dave Brock, Dave Bannister, Rick Christiansen and Larry Allen.

Memorials may be directed to her church, the First United Methodist Church of Princeton.

  1. Cousin Betty was a friend to all. She was a great caring lady. I will miss you. Love, cousin David

  2. Betty was as beautiful on the inside as she was was on the outside. I used to love to see the expression on her face the many times when I delivered flowers from her friends and family. She knew no strangers and thought the best of everyone. I am so sorry for your loss. She will be missed.

Dear Frey family, The purpose for this condolence is to share some Encouragement. Nothing can prepare us for the death of a child, parent, spouse or, relative. The pain of death cannot be eluded and, its finality can be devastating. Relatives and friends can bring us comfort. I turned to the bible for the much needed comfort. We will see our dead loved ones again. The bible says here is Going to be a resurrection Acts 24:15. 100 percent of what is said in the bible comes true. When you are ready, perhaps I can assist you in finding additional encouragement. God’s Word and time will bring you encouragement and strength to deal with the grief. This pain you might think will never end. Having lost 2 children in their twenties my father when I was 4 and he was 35. My mother in 2008, I can somewhat empathize with what you are feeling. In the interim please visit our website JW.org for additional comfort, wholesome movies, and additional helpful information.
Please accept my heartfelt condolences. Sincerely Kind Christian Regards, Ron Padlo ronaldpadlo@ yahoo.com2530 Fifth Street, Peru Illinois 61354
