Betty E. Mercer

Betty E. Mercer, 96, of Princeton died at 6 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016, at Greenfield Retirement Home in Princeton. Born Feb. 13, 1920, in Tiskilwa, the daughter of John Joseph and Atlanta (Baker) Scott, she married Forest Dale Mercer on Nov. 12, 1941. He preceded her in death on July 26, 1998. She attended Tiskilwa schools. She worked for the payroll department at Ft. Lewis Washington, the IRS in Los Angeles, Calif., and the Standard Oil Company in Peoria. She retired after working 25 years for Elgin School District U-46 in Elgin. She belonged to the Bureau County Senior Citizens Association and the Wyaton Hills Golf Club. Surviving are three nieces and one nephew. Betty was also preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and one brother. There will be no services or visitation. Cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment will be in the Mt. Bloom Cemetery in Tiskilwa
