Amanda Dawn Calvin

Amanda Dawn Calvin, 44, of Princeton, Illinois, by way of Iowa, Michigan, and Missouri, rejoined the energy of the universe peacefully on Saturday, September 5, 2026. In a life far too brief, she built a home around an open door and a crowded table, yet always found a way to make room for one more. Her life was filled with family, friends, animals, hard-earned wisdom, and more love to share than any one life could possibly contain. To be loved by Amanda was to know that you had someone in your corner, and she leaves behind countless people who were fortunate enough to know exactly what that felt like.

Central to Amanda’s life was the family she built over nearly three decades with her husband and best friend. Together, they raised six children and nurtured a home where love shone through in the everyday things that matter most: meals, worries, acts of service, smiles, and small kindnesses. Amanda loved her children fiercely, welcomed the people they loved into her family, and took immeasurable joy in seeing that family continue to grow. Family was never abstract to Amanda. Family was something she made, found, protected, and loved every day.

Long before Amanda became a source of love and shelter for so many others, she was given that same kind of foundation by her uncle, who raised her and gave her a place to call home. The roots he helped establish grounded her throughout her life and were reflected in the fierce loyalty she gave to the people she loved and her drive to protect those who needed protecting. Amanda found meaning and peace in nature through her Indigenous and pagan heritage, carrying with her a deep respect for living creatures, the earth, and the cycles that connect all things. Her wisdom was forged the hard way through a life that was not always gentle with her, and she somehow turned so much of what she learned into compassion for others.

Amanda’s infinite capacity for love was never confined to the boundaries of a traditional family. Cherished friends were welcomed into her family, animals in need became lifelong companions, and people who found their way into her life were made to feel they belonged. She had a particular place in the depths of her heart for the overlooked, the wounded, and the ones who simply needed somewhere safe to land, whether they came to her on two legs or four. Amanda believed deeply in the bonds formed between living things, and she made life and the world better by offering care, loyalty, humor, and belonging wherever she could. The circle around her was wide because Amanda left something of herself with every soul who knew her.

Amanda’s legacy lives on through her husband and partner of nearly three decades, Jon; their six children and the families they have created: daughter Katie (husband Chris) and grandchildren Lily (father Cory), Amaryllis, and Ren; daughter Hailey (husband Steven) and grandchild James; son Mikie (partner Brittany) and grandchildren Felix and Roselyn; son Cody; and twins Jamie (partner Nick) and Jacob. Her family extended far beyond the traditional branches of a family tree, and she will be deeply missed by her uncle Stevie, who raised her; her cherished friend Geneva (husband Mike) and children Rowan and Elizabeth; and her found sister Christine “Quincy” (spouse Jay), along with children Christopher and Quentin.

Though Amanda’s journey through this life has ended, her spirit and energy remain forever, found in the hearts of everyone who shared in her journey. She lives on in the family she made and found, in every creature she cared for, and in every person fortunate enough to carry a little of Amanda forward with them. Her 44 years will multiply across generations, and she will never truly be gone, carried forward through memories, cherished moments, and the unbreakable tether of deep love.

Amanda’s family will honor her memory and legacy through private memorials reflecting her beliefs. Cremation Rites have been accorded.
