Alvin S. Behrens, 89, of Manlius died at 5:25 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at Illini Restorative Care in Silvis. Born June 23, 1925, in Manlius to Carl and Mina (Stier) Behrens, he married Bernadette M. Ryan Oct. 17, 1946, in Santa Fe, N.M. She died Dec. 29, 1990. He graduated from Manlius High School in 1943. He was a lifetime farmer and had worked at Kory''s. He served as a private in the U.S. Army during World War II with Medical Detachment 1802d Special Regiment USMA, West Point, N.Y. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manlius and the Bureau County Farm Bureau. Surviving are one son, David A. (Diane) Behrens of Moline; two daughters, Kathleen R. (Mark) Miller of Latham and Nancy M. (Jim Drake) Gibbs of Princeton; seven grandchildren, Wendy S. Olson of Toulon, Randy D. (Deborah) Behrens of Moline, Jeffrey A. (Jodie) Behrens of Silvis, Andrew R. (Amanda) Miller of Maple Grove, Minn., Elizabeth (Antonio Lawler) Miller of Chicago, Joseph P. (Alyssa) Gibbs of Springfield and Megan M. (Andy) Krabill of Goshen, Ind.; 11 great-grandchildren and one due in May; one great-great-grandchild due in October; one brother, Milford Behrens of Manlius; and one sister, Beulah Nelson of Polo. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one sister, Margaret Jaquet. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 4, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manlius, with the Rev. Gene Vincent, pastor of the First Lutheran Church in Ohio, Ill., officiating. Burial will be in the Manlius Cemetery, Manlius, with military rites conducted by Wyanet VFW Post 6634. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 Monday, May 4, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manlius. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manlius.
