Alex Patrick Franklin, 27, of Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of Walnut, died Thursday, July 11, 2019, in Colorado Springs.
Alex was born in Geneseo on Aug. 21, 1991, the son of Monica (Marty) Thompson and Paul Franklin.
He graduated from Bureau Valley High School with the Class of 2010 and earned his associates degree in science from Illinois Valley Community College in 2014.
He was a stay-at-home dad. He enjoyed playing basketball, writing poems and lyrics, music and hiking. Alex’s greatest joy was being Leo’s dad.
Surviving are his fiancée, Jade Atkinson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son, Leo Franklin of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his two beloved dogs, Marley and Smokey; his mom, Monica (Marty) Thompson of Mineral; his dad, Paul Franklin of Colfax; four sisters, Aubrey Franklin of Princeton, Alyssa (Jeremiah) Johnson of Andover, Cathleen Noble of Sterling and Alexis Johnson of Peoria; four brothers, Jimmy (Amanda) Thompson of Mineral, Kevin Thompson of Mineral, Tristan Franklin of Colfax and Logan Franklin of Colfax; his grandparents, Terry and Loraine Franklin of Sheffield, Larry and Bonnie Anderson of Tampico, and James and Loretta Thompson of Sheffield; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Linda Anderson.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Laura Root-Tanner officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded after the service.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 19, at the funeral home.
