Susan “Sue” Joanne Horwath, 75, of Princeton, IL passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, IL, surrounded by her family. Sue was born on May 17, 1949, in Estherville, IA, the daughter of Harlan and Betty (Eggerth) Peterson.

She married her high school sweetheart, Mark Horwath, on June 6, 1971 in Ringsted, IA.  After high school, Sue attended nursing school at the University of Iowa, earning LPN certification. In 1989, Susan and her husband, Mark, opened Someone’s in the Kitchen, a kitchen & bath business located in Princeton, IL, where she managed the accounting side of the business.

Above all, Sue loved and enjoyed her family. She also enjoyed music, sewing, and teaming with her border collies in agility training and competition.

Survivors include her husband, Mark Horwath of Princeton; four children, Kristin Richmond of Schaumburg, Karin Horwath of Princeton, Erik (Cecily) Horwath of Huntingburg, IN and Katrina Junis of Bureau Junction; seven grandchildren, Nathaniel Richmond, Ardyn Larson, Sean Richmond, Beau Larson, Blake Junis, Charlotte Junis and Harlan Horwath; along with many cousins. Sue was preceded in death by her parents.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at 2:00pm, followed by a remembrance service/celebration of life at 3:00pm on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Princeton, IL.

Memorials may be directed to Second Story Teen Center in Princeton or Midwest Border Collie Rescue.

  1. So saddened to hear of the loss of your mom. I lived on Marion St and always waved at your mom when she was out in the yard. Also my daughter Meagan bought her first car from you l think shortly after you moved in. Prayers to you all as you journey through life without her.

  2. I am so sad to hear that Susan passed away. Susan was a classmate of mine at Ringsted High. We were in Luther League and played the organ at St. Paul Lutheran. We were in music things at school together and formed a folk singing group with Mark and 4 others. So many memories!
    Sympathy to her family at this difficult time.
