Penny Lea Stocking, 71, of Princeton, Illinois, passed away on February 24, 2026, in Lake Wales, Florida, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on December 28, 1954, in Princeton, Illinois, to Edwin and Norma (Dalton) Conkling, and graduated from Princeton High School in 1973. On October 22, 2005, Penny married Gregory Stocking at Wyaton Hills Golf Course, after the two reconnected following one of their high school class reunions.
Penny dedicated many years of her career as a CNC operator at LCN in Princeton, where she worked from 1993 until retiring in 2017. In retirement, she and her husband, Greg, embraced their love of travel, exploring the country in their fifth-wheel camper and seeking out new places and experiences. They also enjoyed spending winters in Florida as snowbirds.
Penny had a special place in her heart for animals and generously gave her time volunteering with Friends of Strays. She was also a proud member of the Sebring, Florida Moose Lodge #2259. While she enjoyed shopping, nothing brought her more happiness than the time she spent surrounded by her family and loved ones.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years Greg Stocking; two children, son Aaron Laney and step daughter Samantha (Adam) Klein; two step granddaughters, Mariah and Ava Hobson all of Princeton; two brothers, Timothy Conkling of Shoreline, WA and Phillip (Cammie) Conkling of Princeton; three nephews, Benjamen Schmitt, Brandon (Becca) Schmitt and Thomas (Sarah) Conkling; one great nephew, Miles Schmitt and two great nieces, Adalyn and Mayla Schmitt.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents; step son, Cory Stocking and sister-in-law, Susan Conkling.
