Born in: Princeton , IL
Resided in: Buda, IL

Mark Buckman, 55, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, at his home in Buda, IL.

Mark was born on October 29, 1969 in Princeton, IL, the son of John and Betty (Blanford) Buckman. Mark is a graduate of Western High School. He served 8 years in the United States Navy. For 15 years, Mark worked for James-Hardie as a maintenance technician. Mark was proud of the work he did and cared for those he worked alongside. When he wasn’t working, you could typically find him at home working on DIY projects, helping family & friends, or watching NASCAR. He always could be found with his black lab, Hooker, by his side. He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved the Oakland Raiders long before they left for Las Vegas.

He didn’t have to be their dad, but he chose to be — with patience, understanding, and a heart full of love. From raising three girls as his own to always answering the phone with a cheerful ‘Hola!’ he showed up in all the ways that mattered.

Most, if not all, would agree that when Mark became Papa, his world completely changed and in the best way. He was a selfless man who, without condition, loved his children and his grandchildren deeply.

His ability to shine light so others could glow never went unnoticed. He was exactly the person we all need a little more of in our lives – the laughter on a sad day, the motivation on a tough day, always advocated for ice cream to be in the plans, and the best “you betchya” man (similar to yes man, but better) anyone could have asked for. We are certain that Mark’s footprint will continue to leave an impression in the years to come, despite his early departure.

He is survived by the daughters he so proudly helped raise, Samantha (Taylor) Mathew of Geneseo, Brooke Reinbeck of Rockford and Sadie Reinbeck of Rock Island; four grandchildren, Elliot, Luca, Cameron and June; 12 siblings, Marvin Buckman of Buda, Gene (Scherry) Buckman of Wyanet, Tommy Buckman of Buda, Charlie (Deb) Buckman of Buda, Pam Lafferty of Buda; Joe (Karen) Buckman of Sheffield, Ronnie Buckman of Tell City, IN , Donnie (Mickey) Buckman of Wyanet, Mike (Deonna) Buckman of Buda, Darrell (John Reitman) Buckman of Jacksonville, FL and Ernie (JoAnna Tucker) Buckman of Nanjemoy, MD; along with an abundant amount of nieces and nephews and a host of great-nieces and nephews.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents; 5 siblings, Jerry (Vickie) Buckman, Theresa Zimmer, Judy Scott, Mary DeWael, Peggy Buckman and two sisters-in-law, Ruthie and Carol Buckman and one brother-in-law, Jay Lafferty.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025 in Hopeland Cemetery at 4:00 pm. A celebration of life for family and friends will be held from 5:00 pm- 7:00 pm on Friday, July 18, 2025 at Hidden Lake Country Club in Sheffield, IL. Cremation Rites have been accorded.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I had the pleasure of working with Mark on a family project. I’ll never forget the determination and love he showed that weekend. We celebrated high moments and some not so great ones, but Mark showed up for it all. Thank you for being YOU to all those who matter. Gone too soon but never forgotten by so many.

  2. Loved chatting with Mark every time I seen him! What a great guy! He will be missed! RIP old friend

  3. Rest in peace Mark. You were always a good friend to me working at Hardie. My deepest condolences to his family.

  4. RIP Mark , a lot of great memories when me and Jerry came out of the military, hanging out in Buda . I know your spirit and soul are in the perfect place. Rest easy my brother.

  5. No one will ever fill your locker at Hardie, Mark. Whether we needed a laugh, advice or someone to tell us to straighten up, you were our man. Rest in peace!

  6. We pray for comfort and care to Mark’s family and friends during this difficult time. I met Mark while serving onboard the USS Haddo and can clearly see his smile today. He is one, of just a few shipmates, that inspire me to continue to see each day as the glass is half full , instead of empty. He will be missed.
