Kenneth “Ken” L. Verbout, 73, of Sheffield, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Ken was born on April 27, 1952, in Kewanee, IL, the son of Donald L. and Elaine (Bumphrey) Verbout. He was a 1970 graduate of Neponset High School.  Ken served six years in the Army National Guard before working as a Truck Driver and eventually owning and operating his own trucking company, Verbout Trucking, for over 40 years, retiring in 2020. He met the love of his life, Roxanne Stone, in 2015 and were engaged to be married before her passing on October 29, 2021.

Ken enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson in his spare time, along with watching his grandchildren in sports and other activities. He was known to be able to fix anything and always had the right tool for the job. Ken was a character and cherished spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by all those who knew him.

He is survived by his daughter, Jamie (Matt) Swearingen; three grandchildren, Liam, Harper, and Quinn Swearingen, all of Sheffield; his mother, Elaine Verbout; two siblings, Donald E. (Lisa) Verbout and Deborah Verbout, all of Neponset; along with many nieces and nephews.

Ken was preceded in death by his father, brother, Thomas Riggen, and fiancée, Roxanne Stone.

A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 pm-4:00 pm on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Red’s Bar and Grill in the Shed in Sheffield, IL. Cremation Rites have been accorded.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society for Prostate Cancer Research or an organization of your choice.
