James Edward Chism

James Edward Chism, 80, of Princeton, IL formerly of Mendota, IL passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026 at OSF St. Clare Medical Center in Princeton, IL.

James was born on August 16, 1945 in Judsonia, AR the son of William and Marie Avenel (Sterling) Chism.  He graduated from Mendota High School in 1964. James enlisted into the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. After the service James worked for Motor Wheel in Mendota and then R R Donelley retiring in 2006. He was a member of the Family Church of the Nazarene. James enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing Euchre; but most of all cherished spending time with his family.

Survivors include his six children, Ronda (Tim) Hollars of Princeton, Rita (Richard) Sutherland of Henry,  Matthew Chism of La Salle, Mark Chism of La Salle, David Chism of Judsonia, AR and Adam Chism of Judsonia, AR; 15 grandchildren, Wendy (Charlie) King, Tana Hammond, Jamie (Brad) Ames, Adeline (Cody) Essl, Timothy Shawn Hollars, Justin Chism, Jonathan Hester, Lucinda (Ash) Reno, Rachel (Mike) Pond Loney, Ronnie (Jayde) Lee, Alex Chism, Rhelynn Chism, Dakota Chism, Aubrielle Chism and Tabitha Chism; 27 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Rivera of Winter Haven.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, James Harold Chism and Rebecca Chism; one son-in-law, Richard Sutherland; one sister Margaret Smith and one infant brother.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until time of funeral service at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at the Family Church of the Nazarene in Malden with Pastor Ronda Hollars, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Mason Cemetery in Princeton, IL.
