Elisabeth “Lisa” W. Johnson, 92, of Cambridge, IL passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at Hammond-Henry Hospital in Geneseo, IL.

Lisa was born on May 8, 1932 in Steinach, Germany the daughter of Cacilia Handwerker. At the age of 6 Lisa was adopted by her step-father Georg Weinspach. She met her husband Clarence while he was in Germany after WWII in 1950. Clarence sponsored Lisa in order for her to come to the United States. They were married on September 3, 1955 in Geneseo. He preceded her in death on December 14, 2016. Lisa was a bookkeeper for her husband’s construction company for many years. She also owned and operated her own restaurant the Milky Way which was renamed to the Linden Restaurant in Cambridge, IL, retiring in 2015. Lisa and Clarence liked traveling to different places after their retirement.  Lisa was a member of the German American Heritage, Geneseo Garden Cub and the Circle 14 Catholic Church Club. She also volunteered with the Arc Association and Self Help in Sterling. Lisa enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting, but most of all she loved her family.

She is survived by her four sons, Richard (Sherri) Johnson of Tampico, Garret Johnson of Sterling, Robert (Beth) Johnson of Rock Island and Timothy Johnson of Cambridge; 11 grandchildren, Carley Johnson, Daulton Johnson, Iris (Christian) Johnson, Lilly Johnson, Alaina (Sean) Monocerous, Rabecca (Gustaf) Uttersten, Zack Fuller, Jake Swanson, Chapin Bone, Spencer (Kristin) Bone and Trevor (Toni) Bone; 7 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Margaret Jonas of Bonn, Germany, Gertrud Lingnau of Colgne, Germany, Hilde Dittrich of Stuttgart, Germany, Cilly Fuchstiner of Steinach, Germany; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Bryan Johnson and Randolph Johnson and one sister, Johanna Tribus.

A funeral mass will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church in Geneseo with Father Daniel Gifford officiating. Private Burial of cremated remains will be at North Cemetery in Geneseo. Cremation Rites have been accorded.

    I know how much she loved each of you. I sure hope you all will make the effort to stay together and enjoy each other’s company for many years to come. I won’t be able to attend her memorial tomorrow but my thoughts are with you all. I hope to see each of you!

  4. I’m just now seeing of Lisa’s passing. Condolences to her family and friends. She spoke highly of all her family. I enjoyed her telling stories about Germany. She was such a wonderful Lady. Thank you Lisa for being so sweet! I miss you already. 😢😢
