Diana Lynn (Hanna) Piper of Princeton, IL passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at her home surrounded by loved ones.
Diana was born on August 4, 1959 in Joliet, IL the daughter of Donald and Fredalie (Harlow) Barnett. She was a proud graduate of Lockport Central High School, Class of 1977. Diana was united in marriage to Scott Piper on March 14, 1992 at the Princeton First United Methodist Church.
In 1977, she made local racing history as the first female driver to take laps at Joliet Memorial Stadium, driving her dad’s bright red Midget car, #16. That moment reflected her fearless spirit and lifelong love of racing. She worked many years at the Bureau County Speedway and greatly enjoyed attending NASCAR races.
She also had a deep love for helping others. She cherished her time working as a teacher’s aide at Jefferson Elementary, where she supported students with patience, kindness, and care.
One of her proudest accomplishments was participating in a kidney transplant exchange through Donate Life. She spoke often of how meaningful it was to be part of something that gave others a second chance, and she carried that pride with her always.
Diana is survived by her husband, Scott Piper, of Princeton, two children; DJ Piper of Princeton, and Chelsea Piper of Bureau, IL, one sister; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Jim, son, Jimmy and daughter Amy Hanna.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Children’s Hospital.
Diana will be remembered for her strength, her generosity, her trailblazing spirit, and the love she shared with everyone around her.
