Carol Jean Gingrich, 89, of Sheffield, IL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at her home in Sheffield.

Carol was born on September 7, 1935, in Princeton, IL, the daughter of Lloyd and Bessie Smith. Carol married Stanley Wayne Gingrich on February 3, 1957, in Sheffield. They shared 68 wonderful years as husband and wife on the family farm.

Carol is survived by her four children: Randy (Sagrario) Gingrich of Chihuahua, Mexico; Kevin Gingrich of Dallas, TX; Rod (Ron) Gingrich of Chicago, IL, and Rhonda Telfer of Taipei, Taiwan. She is also survived by all of her twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, who live across the US, in Mexico and Taiwan.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters: Ona Andersen and Shirley Sindt.

Carol graduated from Manlius High School with the class of 1953. At a summer 4-H camp, she met a farm boy named Stan from Mineral High School. From that day, their love and commitment to each other never wavered. Carol was a loving mother to her four redheaded children, and her hospitality and community involvement filled their lives with wonderful memories. Among her many talents, Carol was an artist. She was constantly creating beauty. She excelled at cooking, sewing, home design, and capturing exquisite scenes with her oil paints, acrylics and water colors. Her artwork can be viewed in several public places around Bureau County and in the homes of many relatives and friends.

Throughout her life, Carol thanked the Lord for her many blessings. She was a dedicated member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Princeton, IL.  A celebration of her life is being planned for Saturday, October 18, at the church. Details will be announced later.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. We are saddened by the passing of Aunt Carol; I will always remember the fun times we had especially in our childhood days. Carol was more like a sister rather than an aunt. My sister, my brother and I spent many a day on my folks farm as a child with her, playing in the hay mow and sledding down the hill, etc. I will always cherish those last days we spent with her, sharing a few smiles and laughs! I adore all of her many beautiful paintings through out my home and all of her family writings, etc. She will always have a presence in my home! RIP as you join my mom and dad Paul and Ona Andersen , Aunt Shirley Sindt and brother Bob Andersen! Sending many prayers and loving thoughts to all of you as you go thru the days ahead!
