Ann R. Sprowls, age 80, of Sheffield, died Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at home surrounded by her daughters.

Ann was born February 13, 1945 in Princeton, the daughter of Loyal and Frances (Downey) Wallace. She graduated from Manlius High School. She married Richard “Dick” Kaufman of Sheffield and they had two daughters Kristal “Kris” and Susan “Susie”. He preceded her in death on December 4, 1999. She married Robert “Bob” Sprowls of Sheffield on July 22, 1994. He preceded her in death on November 5, 2017.

Ann was well known for her 28 years of in-home daycare, caring for two generations of children. That dedication to children was best known by her daughters and her grandchildren who could rely on her to be in the bleachers of every sporting event and seats for every concert and school play. Ann was a dedicated servant of her community, serving for many years with the Lion’s Club, Sheffield Fire Department, and St. Patrick’s Church. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Church and Hidden Lake Country Club. She enjoyed traveling to visit friends and family and golfing with her husband, Bob, and her friends from the Club. Her love and kindness is best represented by her decades-long friendships and the immense loss felt by her daughters and grandchildren.

She is survived by her two daughters Kristal Kaufman and Susan (Jamie Oberle) Kaufman both of Buda; six grandchildren Lauren (Benjamin) Nolden of Tremont; Dane Barnett of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Parker (Claudia) Neuhalfen of Sheffield; Saige (Hunter) Barnett of Prophetstown; Kale (Keagan) Barnett of Davenport, Iowa; and Taylor Neuhalfen of Buda; one brother Thomas (Judy) Wallace of Port Byron; and two great grandchildren, Jude and Kate Nolden.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Jean (Wallace) Smith; brother, Rob Wallace, and one granddaughter Jordan Barnett.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Cremation Rites have been accorded. Burial of cremated remains will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Sheffield, IL.

  1. So sorry to about the loss of such a truly beloved woman. I think she helped raise over half Sheffield during my childhood. I have several found memories of that time in my life. I don’t think Sheffield has ever had a more reliable or better person to care for the community’s children ever. I know her absence will be felt by so many. To her family my deepest condolences are with you.
