Burton Keith Buchanan

Burton Keith Buchanan, 83, of Princeton, Illinois, passed away peacefully in his home on August 26, 2026, while surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and man of faith whose life exemplified hard work, quiet strength, generosity, and love.

Burt was born in Princeton on April 7, 1943, son of Robert William and Elizabeth Ella (Bird) Buchanan. He was a 1961 graduate of Princeton High School and later proudly served six years in the Illinois Army National Guard. He grew up deeply rooted in traditional family values that guided him throughout his life.

On May 16, 1964, Burt married Linda Kay Hutchinson at Bethel Baptist Church in Princeton. Together, they built a life centered around family, love, and creating countless memories throughout their 62 years of marriage. He worked for Schwan Food Company and Forney Industry Sales before retiring in 2009 after 30 years of dedicated service.

Burt was a member of the Princeton Wesleyan Church and Moose Lodge. He enjoyed woodworking and proudly attended his children’s and grandchildren’s sports events. Pops was a man grounded in faith and self-reliance, with great pride and satisfaction, not only through his employment, but also in tackling the family’s every home improvement project and automotive repair, which greatly contributed to the life he provided for his family. Over the years, he embraced companionship from several family canine pets and enjoyed many outdoor activities. He looked forward to family gatherings and enjoyed relaxing under the stars with family and friends while sitting around the warm glow of a campfire.

Burt is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Buchanan of Princeton; three children, Mark (Michelle) Buchanan of Bonaire, GA, Regina Hartman (Shawn Hagerty) of Oostburg, WI, and Vickie Jaggers of Wyanet; and 7 grandchildren, Zachary Buchanan, Joshua (Samantha) Buchanan, Emily Ellman, Braxton Hartman, Jerica Hartman, Madison Jaggers, and Brodie Jaggers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William “Bill” Robert Buchanan of Princeton; and a sister, Beverly Moore of Malden, IL.

Burt leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who loved him dearly. Though he will be deeply missed, his example remains alive in the hearts of his family and friends. His work ethic, faith, integrity, and love will forever inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Family and friends are invited to come together for a Celebration of Life event on Saturday, October 17, 2026, between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. The event will be held at the Elowen Room, located at 938 N. Main Street in Princeton, IL. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Memorials are suggested to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
