Donald L. Carlson

Donald L. Carlson, 82, of rural Dover, Illinois, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Allure of Walnut in Walnut, Illinois.

Donald was born on December 11, 1943, the son of Harry and Fern (Dennison) Carlson. He graduated from Malden High School in 1963. He was very proud of his 41 years of employment at LCN in Princeton where he remained with the company until his retirement on July 1, 2006. Donald also proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserve.

Donald enjoyed fishing, coon hunting, and deer hunting. He always joked about when he was a kid, his “Big Brother” would let him tag along.  As a father, his son and him spent many hours trolling the waters of Strunks Pond. He also raised sheep, exhibiting them at state fairs in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Iowa, as well as at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Kentucky. Over the years he dabbled in harness horses and always looked forward to going to the local tracks to watch the races. His granddaughters meant the world to him.  They always knew Papa would be there supporting their extracurricular activities or in attendance to honor their academic achievement. Just spending time as family for a weekend meal brought him joy.

He is survived by his son, Brandon (Laurie) Carlson; three granddaughters, Mayah, Sophia, and Tessa Carlson; four nieces; one nephew; and two cousins he was very close too.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Billy Carlson; his infant brother, Ivan Gene Carlson; and his very special aunt, Myrtle Hassler.

Private graveside services will be held, with the burial of his cremated remains taking place at Prairie Repose Cemetery in Dover. Cremation rites have been accorded.
