Lydell Duane Hove 93 of Princeton, Il passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 16, 2026 at OSF Saint Clare Medical Center in Princeton.
He was born at home on February 25,1933 in Ridgeway, Iowa, where he lived throughout his childhood. He graduated from high school in 1951 then attended Luther College in Decorah, IA graduating with the class of 1957, which led him into his longtime career as a Bank Examiner, employed by the FDIC.
Lydell married his beautiful and beloved wife, Lois (Lynne) Hove on September 9,1961, they resided in Cedar Rapids, IA as well as in Marion, IA before moving to Princeton, IL in 1968. She left his side in 1991, way too soon, yet memories of her love and joy continued to fill the home where he lived contentedly all these years. They had 3 children, Lori, Eric and Beth and 7 grandchildren who filled his heart with an abundance of joy and blessings. This was evident in his smile and the twinkle in his eyes when around them or talking about them with others.
Lydell was steadfast in his faith, attending St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Princeton where he had also served on the church council.
He enjoyed golfing and euchre games with friends, which often ended intensely with the strategic raising of his arm and slam-dunking of his final winning card, accompanied by his exuberant laughter.
He enjoyed following the University of Iowa Hawkeyes basketball team and appreciated a good Western which could be watched 2 or 3 times. He had a lifelong passion for horses starting with his pony, Pickles, which he rode to a country school every day. He then started riding American Saddlebred horses into his 70’s. He also cherished the companionship of his other four-legged friends, especially his Australian Shepherds.
He enjoyed a lengthy well-lived life and reminiscing in his journeys was always a delight. His legacy and love will remain in our hearts.
He is survived by his children, Lori Hultine of Princeton IL, Eric (Carrie) Hove of Morton, IL, Beth (Rick) Rockford of Princeton, IL; his 7 grandchildren, Todd Hultine, Shane Hultine, Quintin (Samantha) Puebla, Ian Puebla, Nick Hove, Drew Hove and Olivia Hove; one sister, Patty Weis of Decorah IA, and multiple nieces and nephews.
Lydell was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Hove; mother, Pearl Soreide; father, Amos and stepmother, Edna Hove; brother, Gary (Sandy) Hove; brother-in-law, Joe Weis, and son-in-law, Chuck Hultine.
